Produced by Gordon Raphael, the 33-minute record successfully avoided sophomore slump by refining their signature garage rock and new wave revival sound. Named after a lyric in the standout track "Reptilia," the LP features taut guitar interplay from Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., distinctive raspy vocals by Julian Casablancas, and hit singles like "12:51" and "The End Has No End". Peaking at number two in the UK and number four on the US Billboard 200, it remains a defining indie rock release.
