The Durutti Column

The Durutti Column are an English post-punk and experimental rock project formed in Manchester in 1978, led by guitarist and composer Vini Reilly. Their music is known for delicate, reverb-heavy guitar work, minimal arrangements, and a strong emphasis on mood and atmosphere over traditional song structure. Early releases appeared on Factory Records, connecting them to the Manchester post-punk scene. Albums such as The Return of the Durutti Column helped define their introspective style. Influenced by classical, jazz, and ambient music, the group developed a distinctive sound that has influenced ambient, shoegaze, and post-rock artists.
