Public Image
Public Image Ltd is a post‑punk band formed in 1978 by John Lydon after leaving the Sex Pistols, known for its experimental fusion of rock, dub, and avant‑garde sounds.
Public Image Ltd (PiL) began with Lydon, Keith Levene, Jah Wobble, and Jim Walker, aiming to break from traditional punk by embracing heavier bass, unconventional structures, and a more exploratory approach. Their early releases, including First Issue and the influential Metal Box, established them as innovators in post‑punk. Over time, PiL’s lineup shifted frequently, but Lydon remained the driving force. After a long hiatus, the band returned in 2009 and has continued releasing new music.
