Mad Season is a supergroup formed in Seattle combining members from prominent 1990s grunge bands. It included guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, vocalist Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, drummer Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees, and bassist John Baker Saunders. Their music blended blues rock, grunge and improvisational jam elements, creating a darker, atmospheric sound distinct from their main bands. The album Above is known for its emotional intensity, layered guitar work and reflective tone. The project was short-lived but influential, highlighting themes of struggle, addiction and artistic collaboration within the Seattle music scene. It remains highly influential today.
