Pink Floyd- Live at Pompeii MCMLXXII

'Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii' has long been revered as a mythical classic, capturing the band at a pivotal moment in their evolution. Filmed for UK TV and shown occasionally it seems to seems to have left a lasting impression on many a young fans brain. Five decades later, this iconic performance has been carefully restored and remixed, offering fans both old and new a chance to experience it in the theatre or Remastered LP, CD or Blu-ray..

Originally filmed in 1971 within the hauntingly silent bounds of the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy, the concert was unique—not only for its setting but also for its absence of an audience. This setting allowed Pink Floyd to focus intensely on their music, delivering powerful renditions of tracks like "Echoes," "A Saucerful of Secrets," and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun."
The performance also included candid studio footage from Abbey Road Studios, providing glimpses into the band's creative process during the early stages of crafting The Dark Side of the Moon. DSOTM tends to overshadow everything before and after, but this album highlights the road ahead.

The audio has been remixed by the legendary producer Steven Wilson. Wilson's expertise brings a new depth and clarity to the recordings, making the music sound as if it were captured in a studio rather than a live setting.
Available for the first time, officially, as 2-LP vinyl set this was mastered at half-speed at Abbey Road Studios, ensures audiophiles receive the highest sound quality possible.

For many fans, especially those whose journey with Pink Floyd began with The Dark Side of the Moon, this release offers a rare glimpse into the band's earlier, more experimental phase. It showcases their transition from psychedelic rock to the progressive sound that would define their later work.

Tracks like "Echoes" show the band's innovative spirit and musical prowess during this transformative period. “Echoes” is one of the greatest Rock tracks of the 70’s and wonderful to experience it in this Live setting. You may have seen it before in a clip on YouTube, which is part of the reason this release is so highly anticipated for us at OnVinyl.

‘Live in Pompeii’ stands out as a remarkable document, a snapshot, of the creative energy and force that was Pink Floyd. Experience it as intended, a stunning concert with some great tunes.

Thanks

David
